Low Speed, Less Fuel, More Road – Try It!
In a recent newspaper report it was stated that car emissions will be lowest when driven at the speed of 50- 60 km/h. This also helps maintain fuel efficiency. I tried to see if this theory is true or just an urban myth with my Honda City. So I filled my usual amount of gas and made a note of the miles status. The gas lasted me for two days more than usual!
I would advise other car people to also follow this speed limit rule, coz it definitely worked for me. Plus, apparently, this also helps reduce pollution. If you don’t believe me then try it out on your car. I’ll eat my hat if it doesn’t work (of course that is if you can find me!)

The blog by Ashish was true. I tried a similar excercise with my one-year old Maruti Swift.
The results were indeed true. I got an extended mileage of 100 kms by maintaining a moderate speed of 50 kmph.
If every body think in the same direction then we can save fuels as well as emission will be lower, but with today's generation control over is speed is little difficult.
Youngsters are very keen on speed, even with the speed limit rule, there have been accidents due to over speed.
Thanks, this was truly informative. Fuel efficient has really become a big issue along with pollution. If this easy method help in reducing both, we all must try this.
I do not agree that optimum fuel efficieny can be achieved by driving at 50-60kmph. The traffic congestion never gives us an opportunity to reach that speed at all. I for one have never manged to go past 40 kmph in the last two years in Mumbai. As the roads are so crowded, you can just think of getting yourself off from it rather than think of fuel efficiency.
It will be a nice solution to to save fuel and to increase the efficiency but the govermant should form a strict speed-limit rule and force every one to follow it.
