The Maini Revai was, till now, the only electric car in India. A team of aspiring engineers at IIT Mumbai have developed a prototype for a futuristic electric car and are calling it the ‘e-on’.
Compared to Revai’s top speed of 80 km/h, the prototype is far slower and can reach a maximum of just 30 km/h. Also, the new car can seat only 2 compared to Revai’s capacity of 4 passengers. On full charge, the e-on can travel upto 50 kms.
Like Revai, the e-on has an electric front wheel drive configuration and will not require petrol or diesel to run. E-on is fully controlled by a joystick much like playing a computer game. A small push of the lever can accelerate the car and a small pull can decelerate it.
Looks like driving is going to be child’s play soon!

It looks highly unlikely that the car will hit the market. Considering that its prototype is less powerful than Reva. It is a sad comment on the IIT graduates capacity, when the world is looking at them to lead the automobile industry.
