From wheels to wings
Passion for cars has been carried over from the days of the Maharajas. Unlike today, there were no
traffic jams in their time and size of the car was never an issue. There was unbounded freedom to
modify cars.
In 1912, the Maharaja of Nabha in Punjab owned a Rolls Royce which he had transformed to look like a swan. The metal bird looked amazing with a Gabriel horn that had eight organ pipes and a keyboard. It also had two levers - one opened the beak of the swan and the other sent hot water from the radiator into the swan’s nostril to make a hissing sound. Such passion for creativity with cars is very rare these days.
The unique idea was not only a huge success in India but also shined in England. Though this crowd puller was eventually banned from the streets as it caused traffic snarls, it still remains in the hearts of car lovers.

The blogger nicely took a leaf out of car history books. It's a different flavour, and it definitely refreshing to read!
I came by chance on this article.
The Swan car was not a Rolls Royce, it was an Indian manufactured car by Indian craftsmen with the help of a European car engineer. The motor was an aluminium Brooks motor, a company which specialised in marine motors, they only made 4 car motors if I remember correctly. I bought the car from the maharani of Nabha. Pranlal Bogilal a cheap Gujerati industrialist wanted the car for peanuts while I offered a decent price.
The Indian vintage car collectors, real old-type vultures, made a complaint that I had committed a felony under the Cofeposa act and I spent 13 months in Arthur Road jail in Bombay without trial or seeing a judge. I learned my lesson and will never return to India where such old type vultures still rule.
