M&M concentrating on export to US
Mahindra, the Indian automaker, is considering exporting its SUVs to the US Market. In the US market, Mahindra is already a well established automaker. Speculations say the company is planning to launch two-door pickups, four-door pickups, and a sport-utility vehicle in the US by 2009. These plans are based on the growing market popularity of M&M in the US.
Also rumors indicate that the company is planning to rename its compact SUV, the Scorpio, and pickups, one of which will be called the Appalachian. M&M quotes the Appalachian’s fuel efficiency as 30 miles per gallon in the city and as much as 37 on the highway.
I can’t say I’m not a little surprised, because personally I like the name Scorpio rather than the new Appalachian. A sporty SUV that gets 30 miles per gallon in the city is going to be a big hit in US. India, in this process, may become the testing ground for M&M and it’s new SUV launches – that would be great!
